Hi, welcome. I am not super sure how this blogging thing goes, but I am going to give it a try for you. We are in this together.
I have been in La Casa for two weeks now, and what a two weeks they have been. ACM sure knows how to keep their students busy. Busy in a good way. I have learned so much in such a short period of time. Right away on move-in day we went on a walk around Pilsen, the neighborhood we are living in for the next few months. There was so much to see, so much culture and colors, very different from home. After our walk everyone had the night to get to know one another and rest up in preparation for the next day, and the rest of orientation week.
Monday soon came and we were sent off on a scavenger hunt to learn how the transportation in Chicago works, and to experience different parts. While our team didn't get the most points or win awesome baseball hats, we did meet a very special "street performer", one of our goals.
If you don't know who the man second from the left is, he is the current mayor of Chicago, Rahm Emanuel! Don't worry, I didn't know who he was at the time either. They say you will learn about politics quickly, as Chicago is all about it.
The rest of the week we continued our orientation sessions. Including an improv workshop that was super fun. We got to have fun with everyone and be silly, it was a nice change of pace during a hustling and bustling week. We also were able to go to the Chicago History Museum and learned a lot about the city and its history.
I almost forgot to mention! I had my internship interview at Intuit: The Museum of Intuitive and Outsider Art that Wednesday. It went amazing and I started working right after my interview! I even was invited to their board meeting that night. It is a wonderful little place with a great show up right now. I highly recommend it.
This past week classes have started up and we are getting into the swing of things. I now have Internship Monday and Wednesdays, ISP and Seminar on Tuesday and Thursdays, and finally Core Course on Fridays.
Thursday evening we saw the play "Twilight: Los Angeles" at the Chopin Theater. It was very eye opening about the LA riots that happened some years ago. It was very interesting, and I am glad we had the opportunity to go.
I was, however, not glad that I (along with 8 other people) got stuck in an elevator for 50 minutes on Friday. We survived and made a new friend, though we were hot and had to use the bathroom.
I'm out for now. Check back again!
